Summary Box: Alcoa posts net loss on weak demand (AP)

BY THE NUMBERS: Alcoa Inc. reported a fourth-quarter loss of $191 million, or 18 cents a share. Revenue rose to $6 billion from $5.65 billion.

ECONOMIC WOES: Alcoa's revenue fell across a range of businesses because of a sluggish global economy. That led to a global surplus in aluminum and caused prices to fall more than 27 percent since their 2011 peak in April.

WHAT'S NEXT: Alcoa believes most of its customers' businesses will grow in 2012; including aircraft, automobiles and construction. It has forecast a 7 percent increase in global aluminum demand this year.
