On April 13th, 2009, a young man named Andrew Hussie posted the first panel of what would evolve into the longest, and one of the most entertaining, webcomics on the Internet. Homestuck is the story of a 13-year-old boy named John Egbert and his three closest friends: Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley. Through the mail they receive a game entitled SBURB, and in the midst of playing it, they realize that the once-amusing game has brought about the deaths of their guardians, the destruction of the planet, and could eventually destroy the entire universe. With the help of trolls from across the galaxy, siblings created through a paradox, and ancient ancestors, the children must fight off their enemies to ensure the salvation of everything.
One of the best, and worst, aspects of this webcomic is its addictiveness. Once someone has started to read it, it is nearly impossible to stop; the story is addictive. More than 5,000 pages have been posted so far, and the story is still going strong. It very easily begins to consume large chunks of time. There are storylines within storylines; so many, in fact, that it is sometimes becomes difficult to understand what is happening. There is a constant influx of new characters- eight kids, twenty four trolls, twelve ancestors, the list goes on and on. Yet the complicated plot and all the onslaught of personalities are what what keeps the reader interested. Nothing is ever the same. It never gets boring or old. The blend of comedy, action, horror, and angst are really what makes Homestuck so great.
Aside from John Egbert and his trio of friends, the story revolves around a slew of other characters. Guardians (Parents and siblings), other teens from alternate timelines, and green-skulled creatures are just a few of the multitude of people introduced in the plot. There is an entire alien race of gray skinned, horned ?trolls? that play a major part in the story. Even the creator of the story inserts himself into the tale, breaking down the fourth wall between the audience and the story. ?There are so many great characters with great personalities,? said Alexi Comer (?13). With a grand total of 132, it?s difficult to pick a favorite, but one thing can be said for certain; the characters are one of the best parts of the webcomic.
MSpaintadventures.com is the website that hosts Andrew Hussie?s comics. The story is told in a series of photos with dialogue boxes, flash movies, and interactive panels. There is an army of talented people that help create the music and art that accompany the story, and this mixture of multiple people?s personal styles adds beauty to the final product. Slapstick humor collides with witty comedy, intricate storylines merge with complex characters, and the mad ideas of one Andrew Hussie are woven together into a webcomic that has taken over the internet: Homestuck.

Don't Raise Rates, Cut Deductions | Small Business Trends

John Arensmeyer, the founder of small business advocacy group Small Business Majority, recently suggested that small business owners accept President Obama?s demand that marginal tax rates be raised on the top two percent of earners as part of any plan to avoid the fiscal cliff. He told the Washington Post, ?There?s no reason to not just let the tax cuts on the top two brackets expire.?

For the head of a small business advocacy group seeking to build a positive relationship with the administration, this is a politically savvy position. Only about 3 percent of small business owners would face a tax increase under the President?s proposal; and the President might be willing to support preserving the tax breaks small businesses favor if they went along with his plan. But as Columbia University economist Glenn Hubbard wrote in a recent Financial Times commentary, a better economic approach would be to cap tax deductions.

Higher marginal tax rates mean that people keep less of each additional dollar they earn, which lowers their willingness to work an extra hour or invest an extra dollar. For small business owners who run pass through entities (subchapter S corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietorships), higher marginal tax rates also discourage capital investment and hiring in their businesses. For everyone, higher marginal tax rates motivate people to find ways to avoid paying taxes, even if those solutions aren?t economically productive. That?s why the Congressional Budget Office estimates that allowing the Bush tax cuts on the top two percent of earners to expire would lower real GDP growth next year.

Tax deductions also distort incentives by encouraging people to spend money in ways that lower their taxes, rather than ways that don?t, but are more productive. The mortgage interest deduction, for instance, leads people to borrow money to buy bigger houses than they need.

Collectively, we would be better off if the government raised additional revenue by cutting tax deductions rather than raising marginal tax rates.

During the campaign, Mitt Romney proposed a politically shrewd way to do this. Just cap tax deductions. Do that and you get fewer distortions without political battles over which special interests get to keep their cherished deductions.

The Tax Policy Center estimates that capping tax deductions at $50,000 per year would raise roughly the same amount of revenue as letting the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy expire, Greg IP of the Economist explains. Since rich people deduct more than than poor people, a $50,000 cap in tax deductions would hit mostly high income tax payers.

While capping deductions doesn?t have the soak-the-rich appeal of raising the marginal tax rate, and requires President Obama to take a page from the Republican playbook, it allows him to achieve his goal of making high earners ?pay a little bit more.?

Republican leaders have signaled that they would go along. Speaker of the House John Boehner and former Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan both have said that they would accept higher tax revenues, but not higher tax rates. As Ryan told the Milwaukee Sentinel, ?Our fear is that if you raise tax rates you hurt economic growth. You hurt small businesses. So through tax reform you can get higher revenues without damaging the economy.?

Sandra: Advancements in PC Technology - My data Recovery Lab ...

Using technology developing as fast precisely as it is at present, it is a wonder we shouldn't have a innovative mass-marketed gadget appearing every jiffy. NCS football roundup: El Cerrito beats Bishop O'Dowd in Division III quarterfinals

Derik Calhoun scored two touchdowns in the first half, including one on a 40-yard run late in the first quarter, to help lead the El Cerrito High football team to a 19-7 win over Bishop O'Dowd on Saturday night in the North Coast Section Division III quarterfinals at De Anza High in Richmond.

The top-seeded Gauchos, who improved to 12-0 with the victory, now take on No. 5 Analy in the semifinals next week.

El Cerrito got on the board early on as Adarius Pickett scored on a 3-yard run with 8:58 left in the first quarter. But Bishop O'Dowd answered right back as Antonio Burnette scored on a 13-yard run with 5:41 to go in the first quarter.

Calhoun's touchdown, though, gave the Gauchos the lead for good. Then Keilan Benjamin gave El Cerrito a 12-point lead at halftime with his 9-yard run with 8:02 to go in the first half.

El Cerrito came into Saturday's game having scored at least 42 points in each of its last seven games, including last week's 56-8 win over Kennedy-Fremont in the first round. Bishop O'Dowd ended its season at 7-5.

Marin Catholic-Kentfield 59, Miramonte 6: Senior Cal-bound quarterback Jared Goff threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns as the host Wildcats stormed past the Matadors in the Division III quarterfinals.

The game, much like the afternoon, started pleasantly enough for the Matadors (7-5). On the first play from scrimmage under sunny skies, Miramonte quarterback

Drew Anderson connected with wide receiver Zati Williams for an 82-yard touchdown.

By the time the rain started midway through the third quarter, Goff was already watching the action from the sidelines with the Wildcats leading 38-6.

"I know it's a clich?, but you play like you practice," said Goff, who completed his first five passes including touchdown tosses of 54 and 15 yards. "And this week, we probably had our best week of practice all year."

The Wildcats (11-1) dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage. Goff, who clicked on 15 of 19 passes, was touched only once by the Miramonte pass rush, on a 3-yard sack.

Marin Catholic's ground game, led by Akili Terry's 128 yards, rolled up 208 rushing yards and racked up 511 yards of total offense.

On the other side of the ball, Marin Catholic intercepted Anderson five times, including a 57-yard pick-six by Anthony Giusti.

St. Helena 29, Salesian 25: St. Helena senior lineman Francisco Otero's late fourth-quarter interception sealed the victory for the Saints in the second round of the NCS Division IV playoffs.

The No. 6 Saints (11-1) host No. 10 San Martin next Saturday in the semifinals. For host Salesian, the two-time defending Division IV champion, the loss halted its postseason win streak at seven games.

The Pride led for a majority of the game, but a third-quarter surge from the Saints turned the tide.

With his team trailing 19-15, St. Helena's Danny Brink ran 52 yards for a touchdown, giving the Saints their first lead of the game. Later, Matteo Abreu returned an interception 56 yards to put the Saints up 29-19.

Third-seeded Salesian responded shortly before the fourth quarter on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Zach Boyett to Tyrone Morgan -- the duo's third scoring connection of the day. Morgan finished with seven catches for 175 yards.

Before leaving with an injury, St. Helena quarterback Richard Hoppe passed for 125 yards and ran for 43 more, including an 11-yard touchdown sprint.

Salesian's De'Angelo Hernandez ran for 103 yards, including a 79-yard first-quarter touchdown run.

St. Vincent-Petaluma 13, California School for the Deaf 12: The Eagles' season came to an end as Patrick Garcia caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Mitch Sheppard with 1:05 left as visiting St. Vincent came away with a victory in the Division V semifinals.

Garcia's touchdown capped an eight-play, 30-yard drive that was set up by Zach Smith's blocked punt by with 3:39 remaining.

With the victory, the third-seeded Mustangs (10-2) advance to play No. 1 Ferndale next Saturday at Humboldt State. The No. 2 Eagles finished their season at 10-2 -- a school record for most wins in a season.

Eagles senior running back Brian Freeman ran for 267 yards on 35 carries. But CSD was done in by six turnovers, including three lost fumbles.

In the second half, the Mustangs twice moved inside the Eagles' 20, but the CSD defense held its ground as Carlos Lopez had an interception and St. Vincent turned the ball over on downs.

Freeman opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 52-yard scamper down the sideline. After Derek Murphy tied the score at 6-6 on a 1-yard plunge for the Mustangs, Freeman put the Eagles back on top late in the first half.

He broke three tackles before exploding up the middle for a 42-yard touchdown run to give CSD a 12-6 halftime lead.

Liverpool beats Wigan 3-0 in Premier League

Associated Press Sports

updated 1:28 p.m. ET Nov. 17, 2012

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) -Luis Suarez scored twice and helped set up another goal Saturday as Liverpool beat Wigan 3-0 for just its second home win of the Premier League season.

The Uruguay striker struck twice in nine second-half minutes and also played a part in the third which saw Jose Enrique score his first goal for the club.

Suarez scored for the fifth straight match and now has 10 goals in as many appearances.

After a quiet first half, Suarez broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, meeting Raheem Sterling's cross with a first-time shot that took a slight deflection off Ivan Ramis.

He then doubled the lead after taking a throughball from Enrique, who in turn netted the third in the 66th after Suarez set up Sterling for a shot that was parried into his path.

Stone Mountain (I-Newswire) November 18, 2012 - Edible Artists Network is an Internet-based community of home baking and sugar art enthusiasts. Founded by Joanne Juda-Prainito and Cheryl Naughton, the organization has brought individuals interested in these art forms together, providing them with a place to build upon their knowledge and share their experiences with others. In the process, the members of the Edible Artists Network have built a strong community that allows them to inspire one another's work while learning how to better execute their baking and decorating initiatives. To bring the spirit of the community to the next level, and further share the insight that it provides, Juda-Prainito and Naughton are launching the Edible Artists Network Magazine. An interactive, digital publication, the magazine is expected to bring another degree of support and expression to members of the community.

Like the Edible Artists Network website, the magazine will provide a list of different features. Each of these is designed to inspire home bakers and decorators while offering the resources they need to further their practice. Because Edible Artists Network also functions as a bridge between baking as a hobby and opening a home-based baking business, the publication will additionally offer tips regarding starting a new endeavor. Tutorials, recipes, industry insider interviews, and contests will engage and inform readers; a calendar of events, business tips, product highlights, commercial kitchen information, and an Ask the Expert feature will offer the guidance that home bakers and decorators need to take their work to the next level. Additionally, the publication is slated to provide columns written by community contributors, giveaways, video tutorials, legal tips pertaining to Cottage Food Laws, and special diet information.

Juda-Prainito and Naughton are ecstatic about the impending release of the inaugural edition, which is scheduled to launch in early December. Juda-Prainito comments: "We have been working very hard to build this community, and we are so happy that people are finding it useful and are utilizing the resources we have provided to share their knowledge and grow in their baking and decorating capabilities. By launching the magazine, we are going to bring the whole community to the next level. I'm excited to see how people respond and I hope they find the publication useful and entertaining."

Naughton, also, indicated her excitement regarding the impending release of the first issue: "This new magazine is going to bring so much to the Edible Artists Network community! We have worked hard to pull it all together, and I'm certain that, once it is out, the members of the Edible Artists Network will love it."

The premiere issue is holiday-themed and will provide readers with tutorials, recipes, and other information to carry them through their baking initiatives from December until February. Individuals who are interested in learning to bake, as well as those who are already active bakers, are encouraged to join the Edible Artists Network. Membership, which is free, affords individuals the opportunity to learn from other bakers and decorators while spotlighting their own creations. Additionally, the access that the community provides regarding Cottage Food Laws and other business concerns is invaluable to individuals looking to turn their baking and decorating hobby into a paying job.
