The Lingerie Football League Will Not Play In Bras And Underwear Anymore

lingerie football leagueIn an effort to rebrand, the Lingerie Football League has changed its name to the "Legends Football League."

The LFL, which took a season off, will return in the spring of 2013 with its new name. So what will be different about the league?

First of all, there will be no more lingerie. According to the LFL's press release, "performance wear" will replace the current lingerie uniforms. Also, the "sexy woman" logos will all be replaced, and the league's tagline will switch from "True Fantasy Football," to "Women of the Gridiron."

As far as we know, the rules will all stay the same.

Basically, the LFL is taking the sexy side of the league away and focusing on sport and athleticism instead of the women's bodies. Kudos!

So what will this do for the league? It should be interesting, as of now, we can probably assume most people who went to these games went because of the uniforms, and not for the actual game. Now that this aspect is gone completely, the LFL may lose a lot of its fanbase, but let's hope not.

Here's part of LFL's statement:

"This is the next step in the maturation of our now global sport. While the Lingerie Football League name has drawn great media attention allowing us to showcase the sport to millions, we have now reached a crossroad of gaining credibility as a sport or continuing to be viewed as a gimmick. In the coming years we will further establish this sport in the US, Australia, Europe and Asia as the most known form of American football globally. In order to reach the next milestone, we feel the focus has to be the sport and our amazing athletes", said Mitchell S. Mortaza, Founder & Chairman, Lingerie Football League, LLC.

The first promo video for the re-branded league focuses more on the strength of the women in the league, but it still does show off bare abdomens and sexy close-ups:

The day Steve Jobs unveiled the Safari web browser

Don Melton, the man hired by Scott Forstall to build a web browser for the Mac, and later iOS, is continuing his post-Apple turn as a blogger, this time reminiscing about the day Steve Jobs introduced Safari at Macworld 2003. Writing on donmelton.com talks, in part, about the reaction to their use of Konquerer's KHTML instead of Firefox's Gecko rendering engine:

What you also can?t hear on the video is someone about 15 to 20 rows behind where we were sitting ? obviously expecting the word ?Gecko? up there ? shout at what seemed like the top of his lungs:

?WHAT THE--

I won't spoil the next word for you. Go read it.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos hands-on (video)

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos handson

When it comes to Samsung's collection of large-screened phones, the Galaxy Note II (as well as the Galaxy S III) takes the bulk of the mindshare. And while that particular handset is the flagship, the company is still interested in branching out to a market segment that wants a large screen but needs to keep within a limited budget. Welcome the Galaxy Grand Duos (and Grand, a single-SIM version), a 5-inch WVGA device that will likely see most of its time in emerging markets. We had an opportunity to sit down with the Grand Duos for a few minutes, so keep your eyes peeled below for our impressions, as well as a photo gallery and video.

Samsung Galaxy Grand hands-on

To the quick or casual observer, you might mistake the Grand Duos for the Galaxy Note II or Galaxy S III, since Samsung opted to craft it using the same overall design language as its flagships. It offers a very similar set of curved corners and smooth white back, though you'll notice a straighter chrome-faced edge on each side of the chassis. Upon (much) closer inspection, we discovered a very light pattern on the back cover, giving it a little extra personality not seen in Samsung's other handsets.

Underneath the back cover sits a pair of micro-SIM slots -- one on each side of the 2,100mAh removable battery -- and a microSD that's capable of up to 64GB external storage. For anyone who needs more than the included 8GB memory, this will come in handy. Near the top you'll see the 8MP rear-facing camera, LED flash and external speaker.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos handson

When it came to the size, our overall experience was exactly as we expected: as it was slightly larger and thicker than the GS3, it was also a little harder to hold comfortably. This is certainly a relative statement, of course; it's still a little easier to grasp than a Note II. Aficionados of stellar displays will be disappointed with Samsung's decision to go WVGA on a 5-inch panel -- and yes, it was every bit as pixelated as you'd suspect -- but again, we also understand that the Grands are geared toward the lower-end market, and isn't intended to be among the best of the best.

The unit we saw was pre-production, which means it's subject to change between now and its official availability. Firmware was much the same way, as a nagging test menu kept popping up from time to time, so it was difficult to get a solid idea of its overall performance. We were happy to see, at least, that it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and even includes the Multi-Window feature commonly used on the Note II.

To wrap up the specs, the phone also has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (though the exact SoC hasn't been disclosed), 1GB RAM, 2MP front-facing camera, HSPA+ 21Mbps, DLNA, Bluetooth and GPS. As we mentioned earlier, this likely won't be a top grab for gadget fans, but the Grand will be great for those not looking to spend a grand.

Essential tips for selling web hosting to beginners ... - Heart Internet

If you?re a Heart Internet reseller, chances are you?ll be looking to sell domain names, web hosting (and potentially other related services) to an inexperienced market at some point. As our recent survey showed, over half of UK consumers don?t actually know what ?web hosting? is, which is something of a challenge if you?re trying to get the average consumer or small business owner to invest in your products and services!

selling-web-hosting5

So, why sell to those new to the industry? Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you?re on hand to help out from the beginning, chances are you?ll be able to develop a long-term, trusted relationship with your clients. This is especially valuable if you?re combining selling hosting with other services such as web design and site maintenance. The consumer market is also a potential goldmine purely based on its size (but make sure you don?t fall into the trap of being too generic or trying to be everything to everyone ? find your niche. See How to enter a competitive market such as web hosting for more tips). If you?re not hugely technical, targeting customers new to web hosting is ideal because they are far less likely to ask in-depth support questions or require non-standard set ups.

The tips below specifically refer to how you sell from your website, but you can easily apply them to print materials, phone calls and face-to-face meetings quite easily too; just jot down a few notes and reminders to get you started.

Diversify your media

Use plenty of imagery, especially if you?re selling a product the customer will use to make a website themselves, such as SiteDesigner. Consumers expect to see images and videos of a physical product or service online, and web hosting is no different. When you?re targeting an entry-level audience, avoid images of hardware and people, and instead focus on visuals based around finished websites (your own examples if you?re a designer, or website builder templates if applicable), themes, and control panels. Ask your customers to supply a short quote or testimonial that you can use alongside a screenshot of their website.

selling-web-hosting

Using a variety of different types of media to sell your products helps you appeal to a wider audience, as some people are more convinced by video, others text, and so on.

Consider creating a step-by-step guide through the process of buying a domain name and web hosting. Depending on what kind of business you have and how it?s set up, this may work better in the form of a series of mini-guides explaining both your core services (e.g. hosting) and secondary services (e.g. email). You may want to consider using the same format for each, for example:

  1. Briefly explaining what the product/service is, focusing on the benefits for the customer
  2. A practical guide on how to buy it from you
  3. How to set it up/get started.

How you present this is entirely up to you, but printable PDFs are definitely worth considering for people less familiar with the web as they tend to prefer hard copies of information. If you visit clients in person, then you can also print them to hand out at meetings. To save time, we?ve created plenty of resources you can brand, rewrite or get inspiration from as you wish:

? Product Data Sheets
? Product Marketing
? Web Hosting Guides
? White Label Reseller Material

selling-web-hosting3

Language

Write concisely. The best copy will avoid irrelevant explanations and unnecessary information; for example, you don?t need to highlight data centre features to beginners, whereas a table highlighting the most important product features is a useful at-a-glance feature.

Simplify terms (e.g. instead of ?bandwidth?, use ?traffic? or ?visitors?), and consider using hover-over tooltips, boxes or even pop ups to explain essential technical terms (particularly acronyms) in full. Ideally you want to sell the benefits and potential of your products and services rather than focusing on the tech features. Think about what your customers want to achieve and the kind of websites and businesses they aspire to have, and create your sales copy around how your services can help them make their ambitions a reality.

The tone of your writing can be one of the toughest things to get right, because it?s easy to fall into the traps of being condescending, over-explaining, or assuming your reader knows more than they actually do. To help get the right level, think of someone you know in real life with the same level of knowledge you?d expect a typical visitor to that page to have and imagine you?re writing for them. It?s a lot easier than writing for a completely fictitious audience.

It?s fairly common to see pages that explain what a domain name is, but then use acronynms like ?HTML? assuming the reader understands them. When you?re so familiar with the industry, it?s hard to remember which terms the average consumer is familiar with, so get someone with no knowledge of web hosting to read it all through when you?re finished (a parent is ideal!).

Presentation

Presenting the required information on a web page is often one of the biggest (and most important) challenges. When you?re targeting beginners, your first consideration should be how to provide the necessary information in a way that isn?t overwhelming. Ideally you want the perfect balance between giving enough detail so that the visitor can make a buying decision and not providing so much information that it becomes overwhelming or confusing. Remember to make it clear to your visitors how they can reach you if they need help deciding or have any questions ? a phone number or live chat option provides extra reassurance.

Use Google Analytics or other tracking software to keep on top of bounce rates, conversion rates, and other essential stats so you can make adjustments accordingly and try different approaches. If you have the time and budget, A/B testing is ideal for optimising your sales.

Avoid cramming large amounts of information into small amounts of space, and use elements like video, collapsible tables, and sliders to prevent pages looking cluttered or becoming unreadable. Consider using a specific colour to represent each of your key products (for example, your website builder product may be orange whilst your domain names are blue) consistently across all your web and print material. In addition to creating the sense of familiarity, over time, your customers will be able to recognise which sections of a page are relevant to them at a glance.

selling-web-hosting2

Make sure there are no distractions on your main product page. It?s tempting to link to other pages on your site to sell complementary services or explain products in more detail, but avoid this on core sales pages as it tends to be distracting. Instead, aim to provide all the information needed about a specific product or service on one page with the aim of easing your visitor directly into your order (or contact) process. Use clear call to action buttons such as ?Find out more? or ?Order now? to avoid any guesswork.

Checklist Summary

Here?s a tl;dr version of the points we?ve covered that you can copy and paste/use as a quick reference guide when selling hosting to beginners:

? Give people enough information to make a buying decision ? don?t overload them with technical/non-essential details, but don?t leave out key elements either.
? Make good use of space and code to simplify your offerings and make them easier to read and digest.
? Ensure contact details are easy to find and reassure visitors you?re on hand if they need help.
? Use a variety of media on pages (e.g. videos, demonstrations, closely related images, text).
? Make ?how to? guides to explain products and services.
? Ensure you have plenty of images of the service/product in question (where practical).
? Consider associating each of your key products/services with a distinct colour across web and print.
? Direct visitors to your order/contact process without distractions.
? Avoid common pitfalls of being condescending or too technical.
? Ask someone new to the industry to provide feedback on your writing style and your pages as a whole.
? Use analytics software to refine your pages over time.

3,000-year-old tombs unearthed in Egypt

Egypt Ministry of Antiquities

A worker studies one of the funerary jars found inside a recently discovered burial chamber in Luxor.

By Alan Boyle

Archaeologists say they have discovered a string of 3,000-year-old rock tombs in the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor, containing the remains of wooden coffins, skeletons, furniture and canopic jars.

The tombs were dug within the funerary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep II, who reigned from 1427 to 1401 B.C. during Egypt's 18th Dynasty. However, the newfound tombs appear to be part of a more recent cemetery. In Thursday's announcement of the discovery, Egyptian Antiquities Minister Mohammed Ibrahim said they date back to the beginning of a transitional period that lasted from 1075 to 664 B.C.

Ibrahim said a team led by Italian archaeologist Angelo Sesana made the discovery while cleaning up the site in the course of an excavation at Amenhotep II's temple.

"When we began digging, the area was only a mound of debris. We were in no way certain of what we would find." Sesana told the Italian news service ANSA.

Sesana, who has led excavations within the temple's ruins for 15 years, voiced excitement over the find: "It moves you like little else to bring back to life someone who sought immortality 4,000 years ago."

Each of the tombs consists of a pit that leads to a burial chamber. The wooden coffins found within the chambers bore decorations in red and black ink, and contained the remains of skeletons, Ibrahim said. Mansour Barek, the antiquities supervisor at Luxor, said the archaeologists found 12 canopic jars ? some made of limestone, and others made of fired clay. Such jars were used in ancient Egypt to preserve the internal organs of the dead.

Barek said the lids of the jars were in the shape of the four sons of the Egyptian god Horus: Imsety, with a human head, the spirit who protects the liver; Hapi, a baboon-headed spirit responsible for the lungs; the jackal-headed Duamutef, who guards the stomach; and falcon-headed Qebehsenuef, who guards the intestines.

The discovery demonstrates that Amenhotep II's temple continued to be seen as an important site many years after the pharaoh's death, Ibrahim told Egypt's Ahram Online.?Sesana said some of the canopic jars came from the tomb of an unidentified woman ? and?Egyptologist Wafaa El Saddik told the BBC that the jars were of good quality, suggesting that the tombs belonged to wealthy people.?

The antiquities ministry said the artifacts were transferred to storage in Luxor for maintenance and restoration, in preparation for museum display.

(AP) ? A bear that weighs more than 200 pounds is missing, and it's not in hibernation.

The sheriff's office in Washington County, Ore., says the wooden statue of a bear was stolen from a home in Portland during the weekend.

The homeowner bought the 5-foot-tall statue in 1996 for $1,700 and had it displayed in the front yard for many years.

Sheriff's Sgt. Bob Ray says the theft occurred in the overnight hours, and it would have taken at least two people to carry away the bear.

Investigators are confident the public will help them quickly solve the crime. Authorities have yet to receive any tips, but Ray says "you can't hide that bear."
