Espier Launcher Makes Your Android Phone Look Just Like iOS [Android Downloads]

Espier Launcher Makes Your Android Phone Look Just Like iOSAndroid has some great advanced features, but if you prefer the simple, beautiful home screen look of iOS, Espier Launcher gives you the best of both worlds by recreating the iOS experience on your Android device?without Apple and their walled garden.

Espier is actually a very solid launcher for Android. It's smooth, has lots of nice features, and does a remarkable job of looking exactly like iOS. You don't have an app drawer, which may be annoying for some, but you get iOS-style icons in a 4x4 grid with a dock at the bottom. If you swipe up on the home screen, you get an iOS-style fast app switcher, where you can close running apps and, if you swipe to the left, even change brightness, Wi-Fi, volume, and other quick settings. Even the folders work exactly like they do in iOS: just drag one icon onto another to create a folder, and when you tap on it, it'll pop up in true iOS style. It also has a search function in the same place you'd find Spotlight on iOS, though it didn't work quite as well as we'd have liked, putting apps all the way down at the bottom and filling the results with unimportant things (like tracks on Last.fm, if you have it installed).

Overall, though, if you like the freedom that Android gives you but prefer iOS' somewhat more polished interface, you won't be disappointed by this launcher. I'm pretty stunned at how well it imitates iOS, where many other theme packs and similar apps fail. Although, if you're looking for a slightly more Android-like experience with iOS-like looks, you can't go wrong with the previously mentioned MIUI ROM, either.

Espier Launcher is a free download for Android 1.5 and up.

Samsung Galaxy W revisits the FCC, is this T-Mobile's 'Ancora'?

Samsung's Galaxy W has already made its requisite FCC debut, brandishing radios fit for AT&T. Now another variant's cropped up in the Commission's electronic database, this time bearing the model number SGH-T679M and AWS bands. That's right, this looks to be the same Sammy handset, dubbed the Ancora, we spied earlier this month in that leaked T-Mobile roadmap. If the release date rumors prove true, you'll be seeing this low-end, 4G Android device and it's purported 1.4GHz processor up for sale early next month. Until then, you'll have to make due with the multitude of titillating frequency tests at the source link below.

Security forces kill 8 in Yemen's capital

(AP) ? Medical officials in Yemen say security forces have fired on protesters in the capital Sanaa, killing eight and wounding at least 38.

The officials said the security forces opened fire with live ammunition on Saturday when tens of thousands of protesters approached an area of central Sanaa under the control of the Republican Guards, an elite force led by the son of embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh. They also used tear gas and water hoses to disperse the protesters.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Saturday's demonstration was part of an eight-month-old protest movement calling for the ouster of Saleh, Yemen's leader of 33 years.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? Tribal elders say the son of slain U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki has been killed in a U.S. missile strike along with six other al-Qaida militants, including the media chief of the terror group's Yemeni branch.

The elders in the southeastern province of Shabwa where the strike took place identified the son as 21-year-old Abdul-Rahman al-Awlaki. There was no official confirmation of his death from Yemeni authorities.

The elders, who spoke Saturday on condition of anonymity because they feared reprisals, had earlier said that five of al-Awlaki's clan were among the seven people killed in the missile attack.

The older al-Awlaki, a gifted Muslim preacher and savvy Internet operator who became a powerful al-Qaida recruiting tool, was killed Sept. 30, also in a U.S. drone attack.

At least 21 arrested at Occupy Denver protest (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? At least 21 people were arrested on Friday and tents were removed from an Occupy Denver protest after up to 100 demonstrators defied orders to vacate a park by the state capitol for the night, police said.

The Colorado State Patrol arrested 19 people and Denver Police arrested at least two on charges ranging from unlawful conduct on public land to assault on a citizen, state patrol spokesman Captain Jeff Goodwin said.

About 150 state troopers and Denver police were at the scene of the protest, he said.

The arrests came after the Colorado State Patrol posted a notice on Thursday declaring occupation of the park in which protesters had set up camp to be illegal between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The arrests occurred early on Friday.

"We're not going anywhere," one 20-year-old protester, a pre-med student who gave her name only as Emmi, told Reuters by phone. "We're planning to rebuild. We're planning on staying right there."

She said she was present at the protesters' camp at the time of the arrests and put the number of arrests at up to 24.

"We're going to be there until things actually start to change within the government," Emmi said, "things like making corporations again." She was referring to a 2010 Supreme Court ruling that classified corporations as the legal equivalent of people.

Those arrested were transported to Denver County Jail where they will have an opportunity to post bond, Goodwin said.

Denver protesters also plan on taking part in an international day of action scheduled for Saturday, organizers said.
